BEMS upgrade

BEMS upgrade

Client: Essex University

Results: Major energy savings

Eco Controls Systems have been awarded a three year contract to upgrade and replace all BEMs systems across the Colchester Campus of Essex University. This million pound contract will be implemented across all buildings on the 200 acre site.

Mark Vinter, the university’s Deputy Estates Director commented on the project: “Eco Control Systems successfully demonstrated at the tender stage value for money, a firm understanding of how to work safely within an operational setting and a firm grasp of the philosophy the university wishes to adopt.”

The first phase of the project has been completed in under nine months, with a number of controllers replaced, upgraded and strategy re-written. A new software strategy has seen gas consumption reduced by 20% in the first three months of the heating season against historic levels within the physics block.

The university’s Energy Manager, Richard Frost, said: “Reviewing historic energy usage and factoring in variables such as ambient weather conditions, we have seen a significant reduction against historic demands for gas.”
